Chippewa wins WCAL girls soccer crown

Chippewa clinched the girls soccer Wayne County Athletic League regular season title with a 3-0 victory over host Norwayne on Thursday night.

Sophomore Gabby Data, sophomore Marisa Fluharty and senior Sarah Yoho scored one goal apiece for the visiting Chipps (9-2-3, 8-0-2).

Chippewa, ranked No. 7 in the Division II state coaches poll, did not allow Norwayne (6-4-4, 5-4-2) to get a shot on goal and now has nine shutouts.

Data and sophomores Courtney Pendleton and Samantha Hardgrove each had an assist.

Chipps coach Ruth Coney also praised the defensive effort of sophomore Emily Badock along with senior Shelby Mowder, junior Courtney Fluharty and freshman Ana Hajek in front of sophomore goalkeeper Molly Zook.
