CVCA's Tomasello wins FILA Cadet National title

Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy freshman Nathan Tomasello won a FILA Cadet Nationals championship in freestyle wrestling on Sunday at the University of Akron's Stile Field House.

Tomasello defeated Jacob Schmitt of Michigan in the final to win the 101.25-pound weight class. The victory allows Tomasello to possibly compete in the upcoming Pan American Qualifier in Mexico and the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Singapore.

Tomasello won a Division III state title this past month in Columbus at 103 pounds.

Two other area wrestlers place in cadet tournament

Copley junior Sam Wheeler placed fourth at 187.25 pounds. Wheeler was a Division I state runner up at 171 pounds this past season.

Wadsworth sophomore Nick Tavanello placed third at 220.5 pounds. Tavanello won a Division I state title this past season at 215 pounds.
