By izzy Published: November 11, 2010

Time for the rematch, but will there be a different result?

St. Vincent-St. Mary faces Youngstown Cardinal Mooney 7 p.m. Saturday at Uniontown Lake Blue Streak Stadium in the Division III football regional semifinal. The two teams hooked up in Week 8 with the Cardinals winning 23-6.

The Cardinals (7-4) got an 11-yard touchdown run from senior quarterback Kevin McGuire (5-for-9 68 yards), senior running back Charlie Brown (113 yards) had a 5-yard TD, a 34-yard field goal from A. J. Fox, and fullback Clarence Scott scored on a 4-yard run.

Key stat - the Cardinals had 219 yards rushing while holding the Fighting Irish to just 107 on the ground.

The rebuilding 7-time and defending Division III state champions historically are a team that just runs, runs and runs some more. In its 28-0 win at Field, the ards racked up 311 yards offense with 287 on the ground led by  Roosevelt Griffin with 139 yards on 11 carries and 2 TDs and Brown ran for 119 on 13 carries.

The Fighting Irish (7-4) won their first playoff game 27-19 at Hubbard in their Division III regional quarterfinal.

Doran Grant had three touchdown catches and had four catches for 132 yards. The big story was the play of quarterback Kevin Besser, who took the starting role after the loss to the Cards, was 7-for-9 for 154 yards and ran for 77 yards on 10 carries.  Sae'von Fitzgerald had a 2-yard touchdown run.

Historically, the Cardinals, who have lost its final two games of the season to rival Ursuline and Cincinnati Moeller, dominate the Fighting Irish, winning 18 of the 19 games.

In order for the Irish to win, the defense MUST stop the run and get the ball to Grant in space. Obviously, turnovers are big, but time of possession means a lot to the Irish, whose offense has sputtered in its losses.

With the loss of some of its best players to graduation, some feel the Cardinals ar vunerable to an upset. We will find out Saturday night.
