Ellet senior Zack Artis commits to Lake Erie College for baseball

Ellet senior Zack Artis has made a commitment to continue his academic and baseball careers at Lake Erie College in Painesville.

Artis, a 6-foot-1 right-handed pitcher, helped guide the Orangemen to City Series regular season and playoff titles as a sophomore.

“Zack has always been a thrower and he is starting to learn if you want to beat good teams you have to be a good pitcher, too,” Ellet coach John Sarver said. “He has always thrown hard and he has a good breaking ball. He is learning: To beat good teams, you have to throw to certain parts of the strike zone. He is getting better at the mental aspect of pitching.”

Sarver said Artis is 1-0 as a senior with a 2.71 ERA. He went 3-3 as a junior with a 1.73 ERA and went 2-1 as a sophomore with five saves.
