Firestone senior Brennan Williams has committed to attend the University of Akron and plans to play for the Zips football team in 2015.

Williams will enter UA as a non-qualifier academically, Firestone coach Tim Flossie said, but will get the opportunity to get his grades up and compete for a spot in two years.

Williams, who is 6-foot-1 and 260-pounds, is being recruited as a defensive end. He played linebacker and running back for the Falcons as a senior.

“This is working out real well for Brennan,” Flossie said. “He will being doing the same thing [2013 Firestone graduate] Jerome Lane is doing at Akron. I know Jerome is doing well academically. He is getting straightened out and should be able to play [in 2014].

“Brennan will work hard and get things in order. This is a good fit for him. He is a good kid and a heck of a player who can really run well for his size.”

Williams earned All-City Series and Associated Press Northeast Ohio Inland All-District honors as a senior.
