Following bye, Walsh prepared for undefeated Mentor Lake Catholic

Walsh Jesuit football coach Gerry Rardin said the Warriors enjoyed their bye week and rested well mentally and physically.

Now, it’s time to get back to football. Walsh (2-1) plays at Mentor Lake Catholic at 7 p.m. Saturday. Lake Catholic (4-0) is ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press Division III state poll. Lake Catholic defeated host Youngstown Cardinal Mooney 27-22 last week.

“Lake is great on defense and very good on offense,” Rardin said.

He said the keys will be to stop the Lake Catholic running game and don’t give up big plays. He said the Warriors need to control the ball on offense.

Senior quarterback Nick Wargo has been playing very well, according to Rardin. He has a very good passing percentage with no interceptions.

Other key players for Walsh have included OT/DE Trent Donald, TE Kevin Enright, WR Crissean Caver and center Sam Karam. Ryan Jun has played well at linebacker and running back and Brock Jones is a key player at running back and defensive back.
