Football thoughts going into Week 7

By izzy Published: October 6, 2009

Was just thinking about what is ahead. There are some interesting twists that can and are happening.

*Just looking at the City Series favorites, Garfield and Buchtel and the road ahead. Because neither team has beaten a very good team in the independent portion of the schedule, the winner of the big game in Week 10 at InfoCision Stadium may not reach the playoffs. Garfield is the No. 18 in Division II, Region 5 and Buchtel is No. 11 in Division III, Region 9. Only the top eight teams in each region reach the playoffs.

By the way, the City Series teams need to do a better job of keeping statistics. I love the schools, but tell me how we can inform the fans about these schools without them supplying us a few numbers.

*After talking with my colleague David Lee Morgan, Woodridge's destruction of Mogadore is not a fluke.

Several coaches see the Bulldogs in the same way Tallmadge was several years ago when coach Joe Vassalotti finally got the program into a winning mode and into their first playoff appearance. This could be the first year the Bulldogs reach the playoffs.

*Speaking of the Blue Devils and Vassalotti, Tallmadge's game against Wadsworth is a possible trap game.

One interesting note - Vassalotti and Grizzly coach Greg Dennisonhave a long history. When Dennison left Norton and took the Wadsworth job, Vassalotti replaced him.  He later moved to Brush and Kent Roosevelt before settling in his home town of Tallmadge.

*I'll be out at the Kent Roosevelt at Ravenna game. Besides the obvious rivalry and division/conference meaning of this game, there are lots of computer points hanging in the balance.

*Be sure to check out this week's video preview which includes our predictions.
