The Buchtel girls won the Division I Youngstown regional Friday at Austintown Fitch High School. Wadsworth had the best showing of any local boys team, placing second for the first time in school history. Warren Harding captured the team title on the boys' side.

And finally, a nugget that didn't make the print coverage of Friday's meet:

North Canton Hoover junior Becca Maj added another chapter to her family’s legacy when she won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.65 seconds. Maj’s mother, Katy, a former hurdler who once held Hoover’s school record, broke down in tears of joy after her daughter, who now holds the Vikings' record, prevailed.

“She’s very supportive,” said Maj, a first-time state qualifier who’s only been competing in hurdles since last season. “She doesn’t try to coach me too much. She (stresses) the positives and helps me get motivated.”

Hoover placed second, five points behind champion Buchtel.
