Green advances to Division I regional baseball final

CANTON: Junior right-hander Mark Zimmerman pitched a complete game to lead Green to a 5-2 victory over Shaker Heights today at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium in a Division I regional baseball semifinal.

Green will play at 2 p.m. Saturday against Willoughby South, which won 1-0 over Medina today, at Munson Stadium for a spot in the state final four next week in Columbus.

Zimmerman is 5-0 this season.

Senior Joe Ferrell was 3-for-3 with a two-run double for the Bulldogs (23-4).

Junior right-hander Spencer Byers (4-3) took the loss for the Raiders (12-11).

Willoughby South shutout Medina behind the pitching of junior right-hander Cameron Knott (7-1).

Senior Aaron Lindgren tripled in the fourth and scored for the Rebels (22-5) after junior Jake Hall reached base via an error.

Medina senior left-hander Scott Sency (6-1) pitched a complete game and took the loss. Senior Alex Thielman had three singles for the Bees (18-9), who stranded nine baserunners.
