By Michael Beaven Published: January 10, 2014

Green High School will retire the No. 5 jersey of Major League Baseball player David Lough tonight.

Lough, a 2004 Green graduate, currently is a member of the Baltimore Orioles after playing with the Kansas City Royals in each of the past two seasons.

He will return tonight prior to the start of the Green versus Tallmadge boys’ varsity basketball game. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Julie McMahan, Green’s Director of Communication and Community Relations, said Superintendent Jeff Miller II and Principal Cindy Brown will be in attendance to honor Lough.

Lough earned 10 varsity letters at Green as a player in soccer, football, basketball and baseball. He played baseball and football at Mercyhurst College prior to being drafted by Kansas City in 2007. He made his Major League Baseball debut in 2012 with the Royals and played a large portion of the 2013 season in the big leagues. He was traded to the Baltimore Orioles last month.

The Green High School Athletic Department will donate $1.00 for each adult ticket sold to the National Honor Society for their scholarship fund.
