Highland's Jessica Porvasnik wins Division I state girls golf title

COLUMBUS: Highland senior Jessica Porvasnik won the Division I state individual championship in girls golf Saturday on the Gray Course at Ohio State University.

Porvasnik finished with a two-day total of even-par 140. She shot a 72 Saturday after carding a 68 Friday.

Highland (630) finished second in the team standings by one stroke to Dublin Jerome (629). The Jackson girls were third at 637 and North Canton Hoover was eighth in the 12-team field with 680.

Avon Lake sophomore Nikolette Schroeder placed second, seven shots behind Porvasnik, an Ohio State recruit

Walsh Jesuit junior Chase Johnson placed second in the Division I state boys golf tournament with a two-day total of 5-over-par 147 on the OSU Scarlet Course.

Dublin Coffman junior Nick Sparling won the boys individual title with a 3-over-par 145.

Dublin Jerome won the boys team title with a 630, one shot ahead of Centerville in the 12-team field. The Medina boys were fifth at 652, Walsh Jesuit was sixth at 656 and Aurora was eighth at 666.

This is the second year in a row that Dublin Jerome has won both genders’ team titles, and the third time overall with the first time coming in 2005.

A total of 72 golfers played in both the girls and boys tournament.
