Highland's Porvasnik commits to play golf at Ohio State

By Michael Beaven Published: April 17, 2012
Highland junior Jessica Porvasnik has given an oral commitment to continue her academic and golf careers on scholarship at Ohio State University.
Porvasnik, 16, chose OSU over offers from Tennessee and Florida State.
“I am really excited,” Porvasnik said. “I am looking forward to playing with all the girls on the team. They seem real nice. I like both coaches, the head coach Therese Hession and assistant Lisa Strom.
“I think the Ohio State team will be a good resemblance like my team is now at Highland, like a big family.”
Porvasnik has made three Division I state girls golf appearances. She was tied for sixth in 2011, the state runner-up in 2010 and tied for 17th in 2009.
Her 18-hole average last year was 71.6 shots and her 9-hole average was 37.0 shots. She also visited Virginia and North Carolina.
“I think she made a great decision,” Highland coach Mary Becker said. “She had a lot of choices, but what really sold her was her visit to the school and spending time with the coaches and the kids on the team.
“She thought everything out. You can’t go wrong going to Ohio State. It is a great school. They have a great women’s golf program and I think she will make them even better.”
