Hoban loses 9-8 in Division II state title game

COLUMBUS:   Columbus St. Francis DeSales (21-9)  defeated Archbishop Hoban (20-9) 9-8 at Huntington Park in the Division II baseball state championship game.

The big blow was a two-run home run by Zak DeCamp with two outs in the bottom of the sixth gave the Stallions the lead.

The Knights loaded ther bases after cutting the deficit to 9-8 on Lukas Sokol's RBI single, but could not bring home the tying run.

The Knights scored four runs on four hits in the top of the first inning highlighted RBI singles by Tom Yakubowski and Sokol and Nate Kunce's two-RBI single.

Hoban briefly tied the score at 6-6 in the third on Matt Gebacz's RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Kunce, before the Stallions scored one in the bottom of the inning.

Sokol scored on a wild pitch in the fifth after tripling deep to center field to tie the game 7-7.

The Stallions came back in the bottom of the first with three runs on three hits and knocked out Knights starter Nate Prebonick after 1 1/3 innings, giving up six runs, five hits and three walks. Colin Shaun came in, then Gebacz came in the fifth and is now pitching for Hoban.

Game time temperature (4:21) was 89 degress and it is getting a little overcast with two brief showers that did not stop play.
