Kissner, Sturm step down as Walsh coaches

Walsh Jesuit Athletic Director Grant Conzaman announced Tuesday that veteran coaches John Kissner and Missy Sturm have decided to step down.

Kissner started the Walsh boys soccer program 35 years ago and has served as its only head coach since 1978.

Sturm started the Walsh girls volleyball program 20 years ago and has served as its only coach since 1993.

“Both of them started programs for us,” Conzaman said. “They are only coach in boys soccer and girls volleyball that we have had. It is tough to lose people like that. There are not many people who stay n coaching like that anymore.

“They just feel like they need to move on and spend more time with their family. I will miss them. It has been a lot of fun working with them. It has been a privilege.”

Kissner is a graduate of Central-Hower High School and the University of Akron.

Sturm is a graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School and Kent State University.

Both were high school and collegiate athletes.

“It is a sad day for me to lose coaches of this caliber,” Conzaman said. “Both feel like it is time to turn it over. I am thankful for all they have done.”
