Lake senior boys basketball player Mitch Spotleson has signed a national letter of intent to continue his career at Malone University.

Spotleson, a 6-foot-4 senior, has been an All-Federal League selection each of his first two varsity seasons and also garnered Division I All-Northeast Ohio Inland District recognition during his sophomore and junior seasons.

He led Lake to its first Federal League championship in boys basketball last season and was named a Special Mention on the All-Ohio Team.

“Mitch has proven to be one of the elite basketball players for the Blue Streaks,” Lake coach Tom McBride said. “Although Mitch’s success on the court is noteworthy, it’s his great character and leadership abilities that have led him to be one of Stark County’s premier players. He has been the proverbial ‘coach on the court’ for our program.”

Spotleson averaged 17 points and seven rebounds per game last season and shot 62-percent from the field. He currently ranks 16th on the Blue Streaks boys basketball all-time scoring list with 624 points.

“Mitch will be a great addition to our program and we are very thankful to add another Stark County player,” Malone coach Tim Walker said. “Mitch is the son of a coach, which is evident by the way he plays the game. He is a tremendous leader and was a huge part of leading Lake High School to their first ever Federal League title last year. He is a winner and a great student.”

Spotleson plans to major in Education at Malone.
