Lake set to recognize former football coach Jeff Durbin tonight

By Michael Beaven Published: September 20, 2013

Lake High School will honor former football coach Jeff Durbin tonight before, during and after its game with visiting Jackson.

The matchup is the Federal League opener for both teams.

Lake Athletic Director Bruce Brown said there will be a welcome reception in the high school commons from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Fans, former players, coaches and other community well-wishers may park in the west parking lot of Lake High School (off of King Church St.) and enter through Door No. 2.

Immediately following the Lake band halftime performance, there will be a special recognition of Durbin. Former players and coaches in attendance at the game are asked to join the ceremony on the field at halftime.

Following the game, there will be an adult social gathering at Pucker’s Sports Pub (3199 Whitewood St. NW, North Canton, 44720). A cash menu is available to attendees.

Durbin compiled an overall record of 163-99 in 23 seasons as Lake’s coach, retiring in the spring of 2013.  During that span, his Blue Streaks teams won four Federal League titles, five OHSAA regional championships and played in three Ohio state championship games. He is second all-time in coaching wins in Stark County football history.
