Medina-St. Ed's recap

By jlloyd Published: May 27, 2010

What happened

The Bees fell behind 8-0, but managed to get the tying run to the plate in the seventh before losing to the Eagles, 8-4. Starter Logan Goehler (6-1), making his first start since early in the season, was hit hard for eight runs in the first three innings. He settled down after that, adjusted to the strike zone and blanked St. Ed's the rest of the way. But the damage had been done.

Turning point

Cody Cooper's bases-loaded triple in the third blew the game open for St. Ed's. The Eagles batted around and scored six times to take an 8-0 lead. Despite a valiant comeback, Medina couldn't overcome such a deficit.

Coach quotes

St. Ed's coach Danny Allie: "They (the players) got their butts reamed. They (Medina) kept competing and we didn't."

Medina coach Nick Kaplack: "We've done it all year in the last two innings. We've scored five, we've scored six in the last inning. Their mental toughness is they're just not going to give up."

"We watched the Buster Douglas fight (against Mike Tyson) before the game. He got knocked down, but he came back and won the fight and no one thought he would win it."
