Must see football games for week 2

By admin Published: August 29, 2007

After an exciting first week of high school football, I expect week 2 to be even more interesting.

The Beacon Journal's preseason No. 1 team, Tallmadge, defeated Cuyahoga Falls 17-14 in week 1. The close score makes me think that either Tallmadge is more vulnerable than I thought or Cuyahoga Falls is better than I thought. This week, Tallmadge plays Ellet and Cuyahoga Falls plays Wadsworth. I hope Friday's games reveal more about Tallmadge and Cuyahoga Falls because frankly, I was confused by their season opener.

I also think North at Coventry will be interesting. Ken Johnson won his head coaching debut last week when North defeated Rootstown 19-14. Coventry lost 26-6 to Garfield Heights Trinity in week 1. It will be interesting to find out if North is the real deal and can put a winning streak together.

Lake at Louisville is another key matchup. Both teams are coming off impressive road wins. Lake defeated Copley 34-6, and Louisville beat Ravenna 35-28 last week. Louisville will look for revenge after losing to Lake last year.

I think the "Game of the Week" is Walsh Jesuit at Archbishop Hoban. I think Walsh has the advantage because they have outstanding offensive and defensive linemen. Hoban, though, has playmakers such as tight end/defensive back Will Fleming and running back/linebacker Steve Yoak. The Knights defeated Garfield 24-21, and Walsh defeated Hoban 42-14 last week.

What do you think will happen in these games? Let me know if you think there are any other key games that I didn't mention.
