Iacofano, a 2013 St. Vincent-St. Mary graduate, is set to run on the cross country and track and field teams at the University of Kentucky.

Tallmadge senior Joe Lowery commits to Ohio U for football

Tallmadge senior offensive lineman Joe Lowery has given an oral commitment to accept a football scholarship offer from Ohio University.

Lowery, who is 17, is 6-foot-6 and 290-pounds. He earned third-team All-Ohio honors in Division II as a junior last year, his first as a starter. The Blue Devils won their third Suburban League title in a row last season and are 20-1 against league foes since 2010.

STVM graduate Matt Oswald commits to run at John Carroll

St. Vincent-St. Mary graduate Matt Oswald has committed to run on the cross country and track and field teams at John Carroll University.

Oswald, 19, said he plans to major in business administration or accounting at JCU. He was a four-year letter winner on the Fighting Irish cross country and track and field teams.

Medina happy in NOC, but interested in the Suburban League

Medina is happy with its athletic partnership with the Northeast Ohio Conference, but it also is exploring the possibility of joining the Suburban League.

Kent Roosevelt happy in Portage Trail Conference; weighs options

Kent Roosevelt Athletic Director Mark Pfaff said his school is happy to compete in the Portage Trail Conference Metro Division.

Pfaff also confirmed he, Roosevelt Principal Bob Klinar and Kent City Schools Assistant Superintendent Tom Larkin attended a meeting hosted by the Suburban League last month.

Ravenna is happy competing in the Portage Trail Conference

Ravenna Athletic Director Dave McBee said his school is content in the Portage Trail Conference Metro Division after attending informational meetings involving other options.

“We are pretty happy with our current situation in the PTC,” McBee said. “We attended meetings with the Suburban League and with schools such as Aurora and Kenston [who will be leaving the Chagrin Valley Conference in two years], and we were the smallest school [in enrollment] at both meetings. We would like to avoid being the smallest school in a league.”

Buchtel set to host boys basketball tournament this weekend

Buchtel is set to host a 3-on-3 boys basketball tournament today [Saturday] and Sunday in the three gymnasiums within the Community Learning Center that includes the high school and Perkins Middle School.

Griffins coach Stephen White said there are 47 teams scheduled to compete in the “The Basketball Bout.” Teams, which range from sixth graders to seniors in high school, will play from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Suburban League hopes Green stays on board

Suburban League Commissioner Keith Walker said Tuesday he has been in contact with several people about Green High School, which is deciding whether to stay in the Suburban League or move to the Federal League for athletics.

“I did talk to [Federal League Commissioner] Joe Eaton at length [Monday] night,” Walker said. “I think where everybody is right now is waiting on Green to decide on what they are going to do.”

The site ranks Beery as a two-star player. 247 Sports notes that he decommitted from Western Michigan.

Green High School Principal Cindy Brown said Monday morning that no decision has been made on whether to stay in the Suburban League or move to the Federal League.

The Federal League had set a deadline of today [July 15] for interested schools to apply to join the league.

Hoban coach T.K. Griffith said Monday that DeAllen Jackson has committed to Mount Union, Jaelen Hollinger has decided to attend Baldwin Wallace and Saadiq Muhammad is slated to go to Hiram.

Wadsworth names Brad Musgrave Athletic Director

The Wadsworth Board of Education approved the employment of Brad Musgrave as Athletic Director at the high school on Monday.

Musgrave is currently the athletic director at Napoleon in western Ohio. Musgrave’s contract is for two years and his duties will begin August 1 according to Superintendent Dr. Andrew Hill.
