Springfield set to host PTC college recruiting seminar open to all area athletes

By Michael Beaven Published: February 1, 2017

Springfield High School is set to host the Portage Trail Conference Academic Engagement & Collegiate Recruiting Seminar at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 2.

Crestwood Athletic Director Bob Dean said the PTC applied for and received a grant from the NCAA “Get the Word Out” program.

“This is a service that we need to provide for our families,” Dean said. “The most common questions we receive from student-athletes and their parents are about the academic rigor as a college athlete and the basics of the recruiting process. There is so much to know and too much misinformation out there. Now is the time to serve our families as best we can by putting them in touch with the best information available.”

Springfield Athletic Director Kevin Vaughn said the event is open to all area high school student-athletes, their parents, coaches, administrators and guidance counselors. Interested attendees must register online at

Space is limited. Any questions should be directed to Dean at Crestwood or Vaughn at Springfield.

Wittenberg University Athletic Director Dr. Gary Williams will be the keynote presenter. Participants will hear from compliance officers, academic staff members and coaches from area institutions regarding NCAA academic requirements, eligibility regulations, academic services available, as well as hints about what it takes to succeed in college.
