St. V-M, Hudson, Massillon among top ranked football teams in Midwest

The CBS MaxPreps Midwest preseason regional computer rankings include three area football teams, St. Vincent-St. Mary, Hudson and Massillon.

St. V-M is ranked No. 12, Hudson checks in at 20th and Massillon is 21st.

The Midwest rankings include schools from the following states: Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, Wisconsin, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Lakewood St. Edward and Archbishop Moeller are No. 1 and 2, respectively in the rankings. Other schools in the top 25 are Mentor (ninth), Loveland is (14th), Austintown Fitch is (22nd).

St. V-M enters the 2014 season after winning the Division III state championship in 2013 with a 15-0 record and in 2012 with a 13-2 record. The Fighting Irish return seniors Vince Lockett, Sam Yeaton, Jeremy Swords, Dre’k Brumley and Jack Williams, and juniors Tyrece Speaight and Markus Hurd.

Hudson has been a Division I state playoff participant in each of the past two seasons, going 9-3 in 2012 and 10-2 in 2013. The Explorers are led by a large senior class that includes Mitchell Guadagni, Reid Robinson, Colton Whited, Dylan Carlson, Matt Rightnour, Max Orazen and Grant Elffers.

Massillon has also been a playoff qualifier in each of the past two seasons, finishing 11-2 in Division I in 2012 and 9-3 in Division II in 2013. The Tigers feature sophomore Danny Clark and seniors J.D. Crabtree and Reggie Rogers.
