Track and field league championship meets galore this week

Postseason tournaments are already underway for baseball, softball, tennis and lacrosse teams in the Akron area.

Track and field teams will join the fray this weekend with league meets. District, regional and state meets will follow over the next three weeks.

The Northeast Ohio Conference held its meets Wednesday with the Lake Division at Brush, the River Division at Mayfield and the Valley Division at Brunswick.

The Portage Trail Conference Metro and County Division meets are Wednesday and Friday at Woodridge.

The Suburban League meet will be contested Thursday and Saturday at Nordonia.

The Wayne Count Athletic League will hold its meet on Friday and Saturday at Northwestern.

Five leagues plan to hold their entire meets on Friday: the Akron Public Schools City Series at Ellet, the Federal League at Lake, the Northeastern Buckeye Conference at Marlington, the Ohio Cardinal Conference at Orrville and the Patriots Athletic Conference at Triway.

Area catholic schools will also be involved in meets on Friday and Saturday.
