By Michael Beaven Published: June 3, 2013

St. Vincent-St. Mary basketball player VJ King is among a group of 16 players that will continue to train with USA Basketball in Colorado Springs.

King was one of 30 players who practiced with the 2013-14 USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team at the U.S. Olympic Training Center on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. USA Basketball trimmed the group of players down to 16 for the remaining practices that will conclude on June 6.

The roster will be trimmed to a 12-man team on June 7 who will then compete as the USA U16 National Team in Maldonado, Uruguay for the FIBA Americas U16 Championship from June 11-15.

The tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship, with the top four finishing nations from the FIBA Americas U16 Championship advancing to the 2014 U17 Worlds.

Qualified to compete in the 2013 U16 Championship are host country Uruguay, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Bahamas, Argentina, Chile and the United States.

King competed this past season as a freshman at St. V-M. The Fighting Irish were the Division II state runner-up to Columbus Bishop Watterson.
