Walsh Jesuit girls soccer more than Yu

By Michael Beaven Published: October 3, 2012

The Walsh Jesuit girls soccer team has more than just senior midfielder Sandra Yu to keep opponents nervous.

Yu, a Notre Dame recruit, is certainly a key component to the Warriors’ attack this season.

Walsh coach Dino McIntyre said Yu and senior defenders Abbey Filicko and Sarah Kornick are tri-captains. Juniors Kaitlyn Semelsberger and Emily Rogers also start as defenders.

Senior forward Kennedy Payne and sophomore forward Halle Stelbasky are both key contributors on offense.

Sophomore Libby Grace and freshman Lauren Demarchi both log significant minutes as the goalkeepers. Other top players for the Warriors are freshmen Gabby LoPresti and Christina Trickett, sophomore Maddie Filicko and seniors Maddy John and Renee Mirka.

“[Winning] state, that is our goal every year,” Yu said. “I honestly think we can do it. I feel like we are bonding very well as a team. The chemistry is there. We have the heart and desire to win it all.”

Yu was on Walsh’s 2010 Division I state championship team.

McIntyre also said that juniors Jessica Hlosek and Maddy Anzelc are out for the season due to knee injuries.
