Walsh Jesuit set to honor former boys soccer coach John Kissner on Saturday

By Michael Beaven Published: September 20, 2013

Walsh Jesuit will dedicate its soccer pitch to former boys coach John Kissner on Saturday when rival St. Vincent-St. Mary visits for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The dedication ceremony will take place at halftime of the varsity match. Fans and former Walsh players and coaches are invited to attend.

Kissner started the Walsh boys soccer program in 1978 and served as coach for 35 years until retiring following the 2012 season.

Scott Zackaroff, a 2003 Walsh alum, is now the Warriors coach.

Kissner, a graduate of Central-Hower High School and the University of Akron, led Walsh to three state championships (1982, 1990 and 2006) in boys soccer.

He also guided Walsh to a state runner-up finish in 1986, 1987, 1991, 2000 and 2001, and to state semifinal appearances in 1983 and 2010.

There are also plans to have a post-match gathering.
