WRA Remains Upbeat Despite Being Winless

By admin Published: September 29, 2009

You have to admire Western Reserve Academy football coach Chris Monsiletto for not getting down through the first four games (0-4) and not letting his players and staff get down.

WRA showed signs of improvement last weekend. The Pioneers lost to Berlin Center Western Reserve 42-0, Bedford St. Peter Chanel 42-7, Blair 30-7 the first three weeks and 44-28 to Warren J.F.K. last week.

But that loss to Warren J.F.K. was encouraging because WRA scored 28 points, after only scoring 14 points in the first three games.

``Mike (Gulasey) has been getting better each week,'' Monsiletto said about his sophomore quarterback. ``He went from throwing two interceptions a game to playing really well against Warren J.F.K.''

In that game, Gulasey was 17-of-28 for 263 and two touchdown passes and he ran for a touchdown. He did not throw an interception.

``Last year as a freshman, (Mike) played as a wide receiver so he's still learning the (quarterback) position,'' Monsiletto said. ''He's getting better as he sees more competition.''
