Jack Snowball commits to Miami (Ohio) for football

Wadsworth senior running back Jack Snowball made an oral commitment to continue his academic and football careers at Miami University in Oxford on scholarship, Wadsworth Athletic Director Rich Berlin said Monday.

“Jack made an official visit this weekend,” Berlin said. “Sunday afternoon I got a text that they had offered and he accepted.

Akron adds wide receiver commit

Western Hills senior wide receiver Josh Smith has reportedly made a verbal commitment to Akron this weekend, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Smith, who is 6 feet 1 and 185 pounds, was one of the top receivers in the Cincinnati area this season. He has also had offers from Ball State, Kent State, Toledo, Youngstown State and Kentucky throughout the recruiting process.

Hoban names Bob Mosher softball coach

Archbishop Hoban High School hired Bob Mosher to lead the Knights softball team for the 2012 season.

Mosher coached softball at East from 1997-2006, leading the team to five consecutive City Series playoff appearances, two City Series championship games and a Division II sectional championship in 2005. Mosher was also named City Series Coach of the Year in 2005.

Jeff Fox set to become Nordonia football coach

Nordonia Athletic Director Rob Eckenrode said Jeff Fox will be recommended to the Nordonia Hills City Schools Board of Education as the varsity head football coach.

The recommendation will be made at the next scheduled Board meeting on February 13. Fox, 29, previously served as the offensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach at Willoughby South for the past seven years. During that span the Rebels averaged 35.4 points a game and made four state playoff appearances.

Green receiver Andrew Pratt commits to Akron

Green senior wide receiver Andrew Pratt has given an oral commitment to continue his academic and football careers on scholarship at the University of Akron, Bulldogs Athletic Director Mark Pfaff said.

Pratt, 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds, played receiver for Green and also returned kick offs and punts for coach Ed Cybak. He had 39 receptions for 734 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior. He also returned eight punts for 110 yards and one touchdown.

Stow names Bryan Celik baseball coach

The Stow-Munroe Falls Board of Edcuation approved Bryan Celik as its new varsity high school baseball coach.

Celik, 31, played baseball at Firestone High School and the University of Akron and graduated from both schools.

O’Driscoll is listed at 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds. He also had Mid-American Conference interest.

Hoban basketball player DeAllen Jackson likely out for rest of season

Archbishop Hoban junior basketball player DeAllen Jackson is likely out for the remainder of the season, according to Knights coach T.K. Griffith.

Jackson fractured a bone near his eye on Saturday afternoon following an accident at home. He is still recovering at Akron Children's Hospital after surgery to insert a dissolve-able plastic piece and to repair the fracture and muscle damage in the eye area.

Cincinnati St. Xavier running back is Akron bound

Cincinnati St. Xavier senior running back Conor Hundley has given an oral commitment to play football on scholarship at the University of Akron, according to Mike Dyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Hundley, 5-foot-10 and 205 pounds, was offered by UA on Sunday and gave his pledge to the Zips on Monday. St. Xavier coach Steve Specht confirmed this to Dyer.

Akron offers Cincinnati St. Xavier running back Conor Hundley

The University of Akron has reportedly offered a scholarship to Cincinnati St. Xavier senior running back Conor Hundley, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Hundley was one of the premier running backs in Southwest Ohio this past season. He was Division I first-team all-state after he rushed for 1,136 yards and 19 touchdowns for St. Xavier. The Bombers advanced to the Division I state semifinals this season.

North senior tight end DeShawn Dowdy has already enrolled at the University of Cincinnati, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Dowdy, who is 6 feet 4 and 222 pounds, is one of nine members of the Bearcats’ 2012 football recruiting class that has already enrolled and are taking part in offseason conditioning and will be available for spring practice, according to The Enquirer.

2012 NFL Draft: Garfield head coach had inclination Whitney Mercilus would go pro

Garfield football coach Bob Sax had an inclination last fall that Illinois junior and former Garfield standout Whitney Mer would turn pro after the season. In fact, that came true recently when the junior defensive end announced his intentions to enter early into the NFL Draft.

“I went up to their Michigan game and spent some time with him that weekend,” Sax said. “He was confident that he was not going to make a final decision until after the season was over, but he did say that the idea of being a high draft pick was exciting. I couldn’t be happier for him.”

Payne was back in Akron today at Firestone High School, but has not officially enrolled according to principal Larry Petry and Falcons basketball coach Dave Milo.
