Top area senior high school baseball players are set to meet today at Canal Park in the first Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame Summit County High School All-Star Game.
Gates open at noon and first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $1 for children ages 6-12. All proceeds go to the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame.
Seniors were nominated by their high school coaches, and former Hudson coach Chuck Schilling headed the committee that made the selections and also determined the makeup of the teams.
It has been almost 10 years since the last county high school all-star game was held, that being at Hudson High in 2002.
“In our efforts to rejuvenate the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame, we believe the organization needed to be more involved in the Akron-Summit County community in promoting baseball,” GABHoF President Tom Giffen said. “And this is an initial step.
“Getting this game going on an annual basis is important and offers the Summit County baseball community a unique opportunity to see some of the best graduating seniors, most of whom will be playing in college within the year. These are players we should be hearing from again but in different uniforms.”
