Coaches: Ross Fiorello of East and Dave Milo of Firestone.
Notebook. The Dragons swept through league play to win the regular-season percentage title and are ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press Division II state poll. East won at Firestone 100-97 in double overtime on Jan. 17 and then the Dragons defeated the visiting Falcons 60-46 in regulation on Feb. 10. Fiorello said he expects to start seniors Davonte Brunson, Mycle Shadie and Nate Gibson at guard, and senior Sir Charles Travis and junior Brandon Townsend at forward. The Dragons top reserves are senior Alontae McMeans, senior DeAnte’ Edmonds and freshman Derik Lewis. Milo said he expects to start seniors Stefan Willis and Corbin Bates at guard with juniors Jerome Lane and Kevin Gladney at forward along with sophomore Evan Kennerly. The Falcons top reserves are junior DeAire Andrew, junior Ja’Tice Shaw and freshman Reggie Rogers.
History: East was the City Series regular season tri-champion with Buchtel and Kenmore in 2009 under Fiorello. East previously won the regular-season league title outright in 1989 and the Dragons last league playoff title came in 1991 under coach Bobby Smith. Firestone last won the league regular season and league playoff titles in 2008 under coach Jerry Laria. Fiorello led East to district titles in 2009 (Stow Division II) and 2010 (Copley Division I). Buchtel entered this season with three consecutive City Series regular season championships and two league playoff titles in a row.
