City Series events to watch
The City Series will hold the girls volleyball championship at Kenmore at 6 p.m. Thursday and also hold the cross country championships for each gender Saturday morning at Goodyear Heights Metro Park in Akron.
Firestone and Ellet will meet for the third time this season to settle who is the volleyball champion. The teams split their regular season meetings with the visitor winning both matches.
Coach Stacey Myers has led Firestone to four consecutive City Series titles and five in six seasons. Senior Bethany Kormushoff, junior Sara Davis and sophomore Janelle Perry are key Falcons players.
Coach Tina Wallace guided Ellet to City Series titles in 2007 and from 1995-2005. Orangemen players to watch are senior Christie Klinginsmith, senior Kasey Williams and junior Lindsey Chafe.
Firestone will look to continue its recent success against league foes during the cross country meet. The girls will start at 11 a.m. and the boys will follow at 11:30 a.m.
