Copley, Wadsworth softball teams win; play Monday afternoon for district title
Originally scheduled to be play Saturday aftenoon, the Barberton Division I district championship game will be play 4:30 Monday afternoon between Copley and Wadsworth at the Barberton Athletic Complex off Barber Road.
The Indians (20-1), which won the Suburban League this year for the first time in school history, play Wadsworth (22-6) for the third time this season after the Indians easily won the previous two games.
Copley got a RBI single with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh inning from Hannah Selzer to score Lauren Schoenewald, who doubled to lead off the ining, from second base for a 6-5 win over Medina (10-15) in one of the district semifinals in Barberton. Kenzi Wallace was the winning pitcher for Copley.
At the adjacent field, Wadsworth, which had split with Highland earlier this season, won the rubber match 7-4 in the other district semifinal. Sam Weaver (12-1) was the winning pitcher. Juniors Alli Beery had a double and three RBI and Alyssa Horton had two RBI and a double.
