DIII semifinal primer: Liberty-Benton vs. Smithville
In order for the Smithville to win its first state championship they will now have to go through the only undefeated teams in the tournament.
Liberty-Benton (25-0) enters its state semifinal match up against the Smithies as the top-ranked team in the state in DIII. Not surprisingly, they are the only top-ranked team left in the girls tournament in any division.
Smithville has not been ranked all season.
It's up for interpretation what the ratings actually mean.
The Eagles love to shoot 3-pointers and their 214 made 3-pointers is second most in Ohio history.
Liberty-Benton senior Amanda Hyde is a first team All- Ohio selection by the Associated Press.
Smithville senior Jenna Pew scored as many points (30) as Smithville's regional opponent, Elyria Catholic, did last week. Pew is rated as a Ohio Top 50 senior by Ohio Girls Basketball Report.
The winner will meet Madison senior (27-0) in the state final, 10:45 a.m Saturday at Value City Arena in Columbus. The Mohawks beat Ironton 50-43 in the previous game.
