Division I regional semifinal: Gahanna Lincoln ends Copley's softball season
COLUMBUS: Gahanna Lincoln defeated Copley 7-6 on Wednesday in a Division I regional semifinal softball game at Buckeye Field on the campus of Ohio State University.
Lincoln took a 3-0 lead in the first inning after five of the first six batters rached base via a single. Senior Brandis Fishel singled in junior Montana Fishel, and junior Emily Vinsel singled in junior Tanya Busby and senior Tiyona Marshall.
Copley tied the score at 3-3 in the second. Sophomore Hannah Selzer tripled in senior Lauren Schoenewald, senior Nicole Caye batted in Selzer and junior Casey Burns singled in Caye.
The Golden Lions scored four runs in the fourth with five singles. Montana Fishel and Busby each hit in one run and Marshall hit in two runs. Freshman Rachel Zink, sophomore Olivia Schumacher, Fishel and Busby scored the runs.
The Indians cut their deficit to 7-4 in the fifth when Burns scored following an error.
Copley added two runs in the sixth to make it 7-6 when junior Emma Fish doubled off the left field wall and scored freshman Maddie Flasco and Burns.
