Early preview of Hoban football
The 2010 Hoban football team opens with Garfield on a Thursday night later this fall and Hoban coach Ralph Orsini is very optimistic about the group returning for the Knights for the upcoming season.
"Overall, we have a number of young talented players who are anxious to step in and show us what they can do," Orsini said in an e-mail. "We have the potential to have a very competitive team that can be outstanding in 2010."
The Knights return six defensive players who started most of 2009 and a total of 10 who started at least one game. Overall, Hoban returns 14 players on defense who rotated in on a consistent basis.
Hoban's defense is led by all-Beacon Journal first-team selection Greg McMullen at defensive end.
On offense, Hoban returns four starters, including quarterback Dan Hinton, center Allen Hopson, guard Fred McClain and all-Beacon Journal tight end LaTroy Lewis.
McMullen and Lewis - both of whom will be juniors this fall - are getting college looks from the Big 10, Big East, ACC, Big 12, Pac-10 and SEC schools, according to Orsini.
"They both are talented players that should be much improved this season," Orsini said. "We expect them to be two of our key players this season."
