Hudson duo place second, fourth at Division I state girls dive meet
Hudson senior divers Taryn McLaughlin and Rachel Speakman stood on the awards podium together with smiles on their faces for the second consecutive year in Canton.
McLaughlin finished second in the Division I state girls 1-meter diving meet with 489.40 points Saturday at C.T. Branin Natatorium and Speakman placed fourth with 458.45 points.

Garfield football to play non-league games against Cuyahoga Falls, Tallmadge, Wooster
Garfield football coach Bob Sax said recently the Rams non-league schedule for 2012 will be Wooster, Cuyahoga Falls and Tallmadge the first three weeks. The Rams will also play St. Thomas Aquinas in Week 7.
While the City Series schedule hasn’t been announced just yet, Garfield will play Kenmore Week 4, then Buchtel, North, East, Ellet and Firestone, Sax said.

Hudson's Alex Obendorf wins Division I state boys diving title
Hudson sophomore Alex Obendorf won the Division I state boys 1-meter diving championship Thursday at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
Obendorf finished with a score of 510.65 points after 11 dives.

Local football players Kempt, DiLaurio, Conley add offers
Massillon junior quarterback Kyle Kempt has reportedly been offered by Indiana, according to ScoutingOhio.com. Kempt, who is 6 feet 5 and 200 pounds, is one of the state’s top players in the 2013 class. He also has offers from Toledo, Tennessee, West Virginia and Bowling Green, according to ScoutingOhio.com.
Green junior tight end/defensive end Christian DiLaurio has reportedly been offered by Akron, according to ScoutingOhio.com. It is the first offer for DiLaurio, who is 6 feet 5 and 245 pounds.

Spectator information for City Series boys basketball playoff final
Several people within the community are wondering why Firestone is hosting the City Series playoff title game instead of East on Friday at 7 p.m.
Joe Howard, the Akron Public School Program Manager of Interscholastic Athletics, said the location of the game “was predetermined as of last July” because that was when permits were submitted to hold events in buildings.

Rivals 100: Marlington's Dymonte Thomas only area player to crack 2013 list
Marlington junior defensive back Dymonte Thomas is ranked the nation’s No. 77 player in the 2013 class, according to the first 2013 class rankings by Rivals.com today.
Thomas averaged 7.1 yards per carry and scored 13 touchdowns on offense and had 102 tackles on defense last season, according to Rivals.com. He is verbally committed to Michigan.

GlenOak senior offensie lineman Brenson Ennis has committed to play at Malone, according to ScoutingOhio.com.
Ennis is 6 feet 4 and 310 pounds, according to the website.

Brock & Marsinek on national preseason All-American baseball list
Louisville Slugger released its high school pre-season All-American list, and two area players were mentioned.
Crestwood senior third baseman/right-handed pitcher David Brock and Walsh Jesuit left-handed pitcher Michael Marsinek are both on the honorable mention list. Six Ohioans made the national list.

St. V-M senior Cetnarowski signs with Shawnee State for baseball
St. Vincent-St. Mary senior first baseman Tyler Cetnarowski has signed a national letter of intent to continue his academic and baseball careers at Shawnee State.
“On and off the field, Tyler deserves everything that he has earned up to this point,” St. V-M coach Anthony Boarman said. “He is a dedicated student in the classroom and one of my hardest workers in the baseball program. He is unselfish and understands the important of faith, family, and sacrifice. I know he we will successful at the next level academically and athletically because of these unique qualities that he possesses.”

Joe Howard, the Akron Public Schools program manager for interscholastic athletics, announced the following dates for City Series championships:
- The boys and girls bowling meet will take place in Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Midway Lanes, 1070 E. Tallmadge Ave. in Akron.

Kent Roosevelt junior quarterback Tra Chapman has reportedly added a scholarship offer from Northwestern, according to ScoutingOhio.com.
Chapman, who is 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, also has an offer from Kent State.

Ohio State has reportedly offered a scholarship to Hudson junior linebacker Ben Gedeon, according to ScoutingOhio.com.
Gedeon, who is 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, also has offers from Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Boston College, Michigan State, Purdue, Stanford, Duke and Virginia, according to the recruiting website.

Ravenna senior running back D.J. Jones said Thursday he will attend the University of the Akron and play football.
Jones and Ravens coach Jim Lunardi each confirmed that Zips coach Terry Bowden and running back coach Trent Boykin recruited the 5-foot-9 and 190-pound standout to UA.

Norwayne senior Adam Wallace has signed to play football and continue his academic studies at Ashland University.
Wallace, a 6-foot-3 and 205-pound quarterback-linebacker, guided the Bobcats to the Division IV state title over Kenton on Dec. 3 at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon.

North Canton Hoover senior Jonathan Nutt signed a national letter of intent to play football at Ohio Dominican University.
Nutt was a three-year lettermen and two-year starter at tight end for Hoover. He caught 25 passes for 321 yards and six touchdowns for his career.

Firestone football coach Tim Flossie said three Falcons seniors have decided where they will play college football.
