Firestone's Miller qualifies for 2012 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials
Firestone sophomore Katie Miller, 15, has qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Neb., Falcons coach Cindy Virdo said.
Virdo said Miller qualified in the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:19.16 and the 400 meter individual medley with a time of 4:49.88.
The trials will be held from June 25-July 2.
"This is pretty darn exciting," Virdo said. "This is the first girl we have had from Firestone make the Olympic trials. We have had several boys from Firestone make it."
The top two in each event at the trials advance to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England, which will be conducted from July 27-August 12.
"She has a ways to go, she is still very young," Virdo said. "Anything can happen in the next couple of years. We are happy to have our foot in the door."
