Cuyahoga Falls High School has named Sean Flaherty as its football coach.
This is Flaherty’s first head coaching position.

Ellet, Firestone set to meet in City Series baseball play this week
The undefeated teams in City Series baseball will square off Monday and Wednesday.
Ellet (17-8, 10-0) and Firestone (13-13, 10-0) will meet twice this week at 4:30 to determine who wins the regular season title.

Nick scores Nick to lead Twinsburg over Walsh Jesuit
Seniors Nick Jaworski and Nick Medwetz each played starring roles in Twinsburg’s 1-0 baseball victory over host Walsh Jesuit in a Division I sectional final Friday.
Jaworski, a right-hander, tossed a complete-game shutout and also batted in Medwetz for the lone run. Medwetz hit a triple prior to scoring.

Hit No. 4 is a home run for Buckeye's Tom Metheney
Buckeye senior Tom Metheney entered last week with three hits in 15 at bats this season. His primary role is to play first base as a defensive replacement late in games.
Metheney’s fourth hit of the season turned into a memorable one when he smacked a solo walk-off home run in the seventh inning Tuesday to lift the host Bucks over visiting St. Vincent-St. Mary 8-7 in Akron Division II sectional final. It was Metheney's first home run at any level of baseball.

Ellet scores baseball win to advance to Division I sectional final
Ellet 7, Massillon Washington 3 – The host Orangemen (17-7) utilized a four-run third inning and a two-run sixth inning to defeat the Tigers (10-15) in this Canton Division I sectional semifinal baseball game Thursday.
Pitcher Andrew Myers worked six solid innings to notch the win. Russell Kline hit two doubles and finished with two runs batted in. Andrew Neal and Brandon Hendershot each contributed two hits.

Stow baseball advances to Division I sectional final with victory
Stow 5, Firestone 1 – The host Bulldogs (15-10) won this Hudson Division I sectional semifinal baseball game following a four-run fourth inning Thursday.
Troy Johnson earned the win by pitching six innings. Andrew Hurd went 2-for-3 at bat for Stow with a double, triple, two runs scored and one run batted in. Alex Damschroder hit a home run and finished the game with three RBI.

OHSAA announces competitive balance proposal for high school sports fails in close vote
The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Thursday that member schools principals voted against the referendum on competitive balance that pertains to public and private schools.
The final vote was 327-308, and 188 did not vote. The OHSAA said it mailed out 823 ballots to high schools.

Glover-Williams, who is listed at 5 feet 9 and 160 pounds, also reportedly has offers from Arkansas, Cincinnati, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan State, Ohio State, Tennessee and Pittsburgh, according to Rivals.com.

Grant Conzaman set to retire as Walsh Jesuit Athletic Director in June
Athletic Director Grant Conzaman has announced his retirement, effective June 28, 2013, marking 40 years of service to Walsh Jesuit High School.
“Grant is the consummate gentleman and has been an outstanding Athletic Director and employee for 40 years,” Walsh President Karl Ertle said. “He truly exemplifies our mission, which he has carried down through our coaching staff, our parents and all involved with the Walsh Jesuit athletic community. His tireless work ethic and commitment to not only the Walsh Jesuit athletic program, but the Walsh Jesuit community is irreplaceable, and he truly will be missed.”

Postseason tournaments are already underway for baseball, softball, tennis and lacrosse teams in the Akron area.
Track and field teams will join the fray this weekend with league meets. District, regional and state meets will follow over the next three weeks.

Jenna Lilley sets records, North Canton Hoover softballl continues to win
North Canton Hoover junior Jenna Lilley recently set two school records, home runs in a single season (seven) and home runs in a career (14).
Lilley entered this week with 39 hits in 56 at bats for a .696 batting average. She has scored 42 runs and batted in 52 in 25 games.

Hudson baseball rolls on with wins
The Hudson baseball team continues to win with regularity, upping its record to 21-4 under coach Buddy Dice following a 6-3 victory over visiting Elyria on Tuesday.
Seniors Jono Chafe, Tim Kennedy, Brian Malerick, Mitch Schoenman, Brian Snyder, Alex Agra, Ross McLelland and Alex Albright have been consistent leaders for the Explorers.

Lake senior Tyler Straley signed a national letter of intent to further his education and baseball careers at Malone University.
Straley, who is 6-foot, is the Blue Streaks ace right-handed pitcher.

Revere senior Emma Gresser signs to swim at University of Cincinnati
Revere High School senior Emma Gresser signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and swimming careers on scholarship at the University of Cincinnati.
Gresser said the Bearcats recruited her to compete in the 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard butterfly and 400-yard individual medley.

Tim Stried of the Ohio High School Athletic Association said the referendum voting period for OHSAA member schools ended Wednesday.
Stried said results will be tabulated Thursday morning with an announcement to follow in the afternoon.

Stow senior KC Kolke signs to play soccer at Lake Erie College
Stow High School senior KC Kolke signed a national letter of intent to continue his academic and soccer careers on scholarship at Lake Erie College in Painesville.
Kolke, who has a 4.1 grade-point average, was recruited to play defense and plans to major in accounting. He earned four varsity letters under coach Kyle Kosmala and served as a team captain.

Highland’s Adam Kluk accepts scholarship offer to wrestle at Findlay
Highland senior Adam Kluk has accepted an athletic scholarship to Findlay University, where he plans to wrestle.
Kluk was a four-time state qualifier in wrestling and a three-time state placer. He placed third at the Division I state meet at 195 pounds in Columbus after winning sectional and district titles.

Wooster, Mount Union advance to NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament
The College of Wooster and University of Mount Union baseball teams have advanced to the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament and will play in the same regional.
Wooster is the No. 3 seed and Mount Union is the No. 8 seed at the NCAA Division III Mideast Baseball Regional hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.

Lake names Dan DeGeorge football coach
Lake High School has named Dan DeGeorge as its new football coach.
DeGeorge, who has been a teacher and coach at Lake for the past 15 years, replaces long-time Blue Streak coach Jeff Durbin who stepped down recently after 23 successful seasons leading the football program.

Louisville junior quarterback Joey Duckworth has reportedly made a verbal commitment to Ohio University, according to ScoutingOhio.com and 247 Sports.
Duckworth, who is listed at 6 feet 3 and 215 pounds by 247 Sports, is a pro-style quarterback. He also reportedly had offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo and Kent State, according to 247 Sports.

Revere's Stephen Suglio signs to wrestle at Kent State
Revere High School senior Stephen Suglio has signed a national letter of intent to continue his academic and wrestling careers at Kent State University.
Suglio is a four-year varsity letter winner on the Minutemen wrestling team. He ended his senior season with a record of 48-3 and finished second in the Division II state tournament at 182 pounds.

Miami University women’s basketball coach Cleve Wright announced the signing of Wadsworth senior Rachel Goddard to a national letter of intent on Thursday.
Goddard will begin play for the RedHawks during the 2013-14 season.

The Barberton Magics softball team is having a season to remember as they enter today with a 17-2 record following a 4-0 victory over host Cleveland St. Joseph on Wednesday.
