Football Preview: Buchtel (1-2) vs. Garfield (1-2)
Buchtel Griffins (1-2) vs. Garfield Rams
7 p.m., Infocision Stadium
The Griffins and Rams began the season as two of three favorites for the City Series crown and that remains the case, but there’s also something larger at stake – any slim chances of playoff hopes. The Griffins could come in with a chip on their shoulder after losing a squeaker to St. Vincent-St. Mary last week, coming up short on a two-point conversion with no time left on the clock. Coach Ricky Powers inserted Stephen Parker in at quarterback for the final drive, but said that starter Tyler Jones would return to the job. Garfield will try to regroup after literally giving Tallmadge a win last week on turnovers that were converted to touchdowns. It wasn’t the first time that turnovers haunted the team, after a nearly flawless performance against Archbishop Hoban opening week, turnovers cost them that game as well. Coach Bob Sax will have to get that problem worked out – now. Look for TE-DE Kevin Brewton to be used as a weapon early and often.
