Garfield plays at host Buchtel at 7 p.m. Friday and Golden Rams coach Bob Sax said the game presents a great opportunity for both teams.
"This is a huge game for both of us in the league race and playoff points," Sax said.
Garfield lost to Tallmadge 24-12 last week. Buchtel lost to St. Vincent-St. Mary 7-6.
"Buchtel is a very good football team coming off of three very good opponents," Sax said. "They have a lot of speed and can hurt you on offense at any time. Defensively, they are flying to the football and look to beat you with their speed."
Sax admitted the Rams played "a terrible football game" against Tallmadge last week. Garfield was held to 30 total rushing yards against Tallmadge, according to reports last week.
The Rams need to improve upon their running game and have been working up front on getting off the ball and having the running backs find the open spots and making the correct reads.
Last week, Garfield junior QB Darius Hoisten threw two touchdown passes in the loss.
"Darius Hoisten has done a really good job for us this year," Sax said. "His arm strength and decision-making has been great. I feel like he tried to do too much last week and was pressing things. We have worked on settling down and taking what the defense is giving us."
