Garfield still considering QB options
Garfield football coach Bob Sax said he hasn't made any decisions on his quarterback situation yet, but does return starter Darius Hoisten, who is the frontrunner at this point in the summer.
Hoisten, who will be a junior, ran most offensive sets except for the times when Tyson Gulley ran the spread formation.
The other candidate for the quarterback position is sophomore Deon Lewis. Hoisten and Lewis are around 6 feet 3, with Hoisten closer to 6-4.
"Both are athletic and it will come down to who handles the offense the best during camp and the scrimmages," Sax said in an e-mail.
Garfield opens the season Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. at Hoban. The Rams played just four seniors last season, so there will be several players returning.
"Depth will always be an issue, but I think we have a chance to be a pretty good team," Sax said. "It just all depends on how the leadership will take over from the offseason and through camp. The seniors have been doing a pretty good job, so we will see how things pan out over the next six weeks."
