Green hires Ed Cybak to coach football team
Green Local Schools announced Wednesday morning the hiring of Ed Cybak as its new football coach. His hiring is pending approval from the Green Board of Education.
``I am extremely excited,´´ Cybak said. ``This a great opportunity. The community is very supportive and they demonstrated that yesterday [Monday] with a huge levy victory. They showed how important school is with their tremendous support for academics, athletics and other activities like band and choir.´´
Cybak, 43, was the head coach at Fairless from 2003-2007 and an assistant coach at Green from 2008-2010 under Tom Stacy, who left Green for a coaching job at Ashland University.
Cybak teaches world history to sophomores at Green and said he is comfortable working with Bulldogs Athletic Director Mark Pfaff.
``There are a lot of kids here that will play very hard and they are hungry to move the program up to the next level,´´ Cybak said.
``We want to be successsul year in and year out.´´
Cybak graduated from Austintown Fitch in 1986 where he lettered in football and baseball. He earned a bachelors degree in comprehensive social studies from Kent State University in 1990 and a masters degree in educational administration from Ashland University in 1995.
Cybak was also an assistant at Austintown Fitch (2000-2002), St. Mary's Memorial in Auglaize County (1999) and Ridgedale in Marion County (1992-1998).
``I am familiar with both sides of the ball,´´ Cybak said. ``I have worked half the time on offense and half the time on defense while also contributing with the special teams.´´
