Canton McKinley's Eric Glover-Williams has been nominated to 2015 Under Armour game

Canton McKinley junior standout Eric Glover-Williams has been nominated for the 2015 Under Armour All-American Game.

Glover-Williams, who is verbally committed to Ohio State, is one of two northeast Ohio players nominated for the 2015 game. There have not been any Ohio invites yet for 2015.

Kent State baseball makes offer to Moeller infielder

Kent State recently offered Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller junior infielder Josh Hollander, according to Cincinnati.com. Hollander visited the campus the weekend of Aug. 31 and was offered. Hollander played junior varsity for the Division I state champion Crusaders last season. He also has an offer from Miami University.

Zips make offers to two Cincinnati-area football players

The Zips offered Cincinnati St. Xavier junior Ben Glines on Sept. 5. Glines, who is 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, was offered as an athlete. He plays running back and defensive back for the Division I program.

Akron also offered Cincinnati La Salle sophomore offensive lineman Luke Doerger Sept. 3. It is the first offer for Doerger, who is 6 feet 3 and 300 pounds.

Legendary North Canton Hoover football coach Don Hertler Sr. passes away at age 85

Legendary North Canton Hoover football coach Don Hertler Sr. passed away Wednesday with family by his side at the age of 85.

Hertler Sr. compiled a 163-43-3 record as Hoover’s football coach from 1960-1980. He led the Vikings to 10-0 seasons in 1972 and 1975 and his .787 winning percentage is the highest in Stark County amongst coaches with over 100 wins.

OHSAA releases first weekly football computer ratings for 2013

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its first weekly football computer ratings Tuesday, Sept. 24. The weekly computer ratings are released every Tuesday afternoon beginning after the fourth week of the season, leading up to the final report on Sunday, Nov. 3.

Beginning this season, there are seven football divisions. The largest 72 schools are in Division I, which is divided into two regions. The top 16 teams in both Division I regions will qualify for the playoffs. The top 20 schools in both Division I regions are shown below. There are approximately 108 schools each in Divisions II through VII, which are each divided into four regions. The top eight teams in each region will qualify for the playoffs. The top 12 are shown below.

Walsh Jesuit set to honor former boys soccer coach John Kissner on Saturday

Walsh Jesuit will dedicate its soccer pitch to former boys coach John Kissner on Saturday when rival St. Vincent-St. Mary visits for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The dedication ceremony will take place at halftime of the varsity match. Fans and former Walsh players and coaches are invited to attend.

Suburban League snags Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Stow and Twinsburg

The superintendents of the Cuyahoga Falls, Hudson, Stow-Munroe Falls and Twinsburg City School Districts will recommend to their Boards of Education that their district accept an invitation to join the newly reconfigured Suburban League effective the 2015-2016 school year.

The four school districts are expecting to have a vote next week to finalize the decision.

Ellet's Cockerham wins City Series golf medalist honor; Firestone earns fourth team title in a row

Ellet senior Ben Cockerham earned the medalist honor Tuesday in the City Series Golf Championship at Mud Run Golf Course and Firestone won its fourth team title in a row.

Cockerham and Firestone sophomore Brian Schultz each shot 2-over-par-70s, but Cockerham triumphed after making a birdie on the first hole, No. 1, in a sudden-death playoff.

Barberton, Kent Roosevelt & North Royalton set to join Suburban League; other schools coming soon

Jackson’s Brooke Bailey commits to play volleyball at Ohio State

Jackson sophomore Brooke Bailey has committed to play volleyball on scholarship at Ohio State University.

Bailey, who is 15-years-old, is an impact player all over the court for the Polar Bears. Her best attribute is her spiking and blocking at the net. She is 6-foot-2 and has a 4.0 grade-point average.

Aurora QB George Bollas selects Kent State for football

Aurora senior football player George Bollas has given an oral commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers on scholarship at Kent State University.

Bollas, a duel-threat quarterback, helped Aurora to a 12-2 overall record last year. The Greenmen advanced to the Division II playoffs and defeated New Philadelphia, Kent Roosevelt and Chardon before bowing out to eventual state champion Toledo Central Catholic in a state semifinal game.

Firestone defeats rival Ellet in volleyball

Firestone 3, Ellet 0 – Senior Sara Davis guided the visiting Falcons to a City Series victory Wednesday over the host Orangemen by scores of 25-11, 25-20 and 25-23.

Davis led Firestone (5-0, 5-0) with 16 kills and eight digs. Juniors Taliyah Carter (13 kills) and Destynee Lovejoy (18 assists) were also very involved in the Falcons attack.
