Highland girls' golf team playing in prestigious invitational Satuday
The Highland girls’ golf team will travel to suburban Cincinnati Saturday to compete in the prestigious St. Angela Merici Invitational.
The tournament starts at 1:30 p.m. at O’Bannon Creek Golf Club in Loveland, Ohio. There will be 17 teams competing, including several top teams from around the state and one team in Northern Kentucky.
Highland will be represented by seniors Stephanie Horvath and Lauren McKinzie, juniors Jessica Porvasnik and Jessica Rae and freshman Chloe McKinzie.
There will be other teams from northeast Ohio, Columbus and Southwest Ohio. Three-time Division I state champion Mason will also be there.
Highland is the reigning Suburban League champions and it made its second appearance in the state finals last year when it finished fourth.
Ursuline Academy and St. Ursula Academy in Cincinnati host this weekend’s tournament. St. Ursula has qualified for the Division I state tournament nine times, including five of the past seven years. Ursuline is one of the state’s oldest programs going back to the mid-1980s. Since 1993, the Lions have participated in 18 district championships, winning three times.
