Hudson basketball teams continue to score wins
Both Hudson basketball teams are on a roll in the Northeast Ohio Conference.
The Explorers girls have won 16 out of their past 18 games, and the boys have won six games in a row and eight out of their past nine games.
The Hudson girls are 17-3 overall with a 6-2 mark in the NOC Valley Division. A 66-55 loss to Solon on Wednesday snapped a 12-game winning streak.
“I thought our defense had been playing pretty well up until the loss Wednesday,” Hudson coach Dennis Lawler said.
“We had not given up 50 points in [six of the] previous [seven] games. We were finding ways to win close games. We beat Magnificat at St. Edward before a big boys game during the streak. and also beat Stow, Kenston, Westlake and Solon. We had some nice wins where we really turned it on defensively.”
Hannah Boesinger, a 5-foot-11 senior forward, leads the Explorers girls with averages of 18.6 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. She is a Youngstown State recruit.
Lawler said seniors Allison Zullo, Brynne Drohan and Kelly Gough join Boesinger and junior Jackie Ulmer in the starting lineup. Drohan missed the first nine games of the season due to injury.
The Explorers top reserves are junior Margo Camp, Krissy Mummey, Angie Arand and Allison Baylor.
Hudson’s boys are 13-4 overall and 4-2 in the NOC River Division with victories over Cuyahoga Falls, Shaker Heights and Brush.
Senior Zack Brandy, a 5-foot-11 guard, leads the Explorers with averages of around 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals per game.
Coach Jeff Brink said the usual starting five consists of Brandy, seniors Steven Boslet, Alex Mushock and Ben Gedeon and junior John Zuccaro.
Brink said an injury to Gedeon has kept him out recently. Seniors Alex Albright, Sam Wolanske and Colin Hogan have contributed in their roles along with juniors Kevin Zullo and Derek Schwarz and sophomore Mitch Guadagni.
“I am very proud of the guys and how they are playing through adversity,” Brink said. “One of the mantras we talk about in our program, is adversity is opportunity. . . . We have been fortunate kids have stepped up and played well.”
