Hudson senior Jessica Monsman recently gave an oral commitment to continue her academic and basketball careers on scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania.
Monsman, a 6-foot-2 guard/forward, averaged 19.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 4.3 steals last season for the Explorers.
‘‘I am extremely happy for her,’’ Hudson coach Dennis Lawler said. ‘‘Throughout the whole process academics was a big thing, and that is not to say the other schools did not impress her academically, because they did.
‘‘She is just a great kid. She is the hardest working kid we have and I am happy that she gets this opportunity.’’
Lawler said Monsman plans to major in biomedical engineering.
‘‘She has a 4.2 cumulative grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale,’’ Lawler said. ‘‘She is 19th in her class, which has around 400 students.’’
Monsman earned first-team All-Northeast Ohio Inland district and Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division honors, and was a special mention All-Ohio in Division I.
Hudson posted a 17-7 record and reached the Division I district final.
Lawler said Monsman also received scholarship offers from Akron, Kent State and Bowling Green. Cleveland State, Gannon, Ashland, Robert Morris and Niagara also expressed interest.
Monsman also plays soccer for Hudson and led the team in goals scored last season.
