Kent Roosevelt's Cory Shimensky commits to Marshall for soccer

By Michael Beaven Published: June 28, 2013

Kent Roosevelt senior-to-be Cory Shimensky has committed to play soccer on scholarship at Marshall University.

“This is a great opportunity for me to go in there and play,” Shimensky said. “They lose both of the starting center backs, and they recruited one center back in addition to myself. I have a great chance to step in and play right away. I want to help the team win and compete for a national championship I also can’t say enough about the coaching staff. I fell in love with all of them instantly.”

Shimensky, 17, said Marshall recruited him to play center back in the Thundering Herd’s defense. He played for the Cleveland Internationals Soccer Academy during his junior season after starting as a freshman and sophomore on the Roosevelt boys soccer team.

Shimensky is 6-foot-1 and 185-pounds. He was also recruited by Lafayette, Lehigh, Pittsburgh, Bowling Green, Oakland (Mich.), Michigan State and Dayton.
