Luck of the Irish or Abundance of Riches?
The good news for Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary?
There will be no shortage of eyes on their football program or basketball programs in the coming months.
Doran Grant, the talented defensive back for the Irish, is ranked as the top college football prospect in the state and 23 overall nationally, according to Yahoo Sports.
But the school watched the stock of another of its athletes skyrocket as JaKarr Sampson, a small forward with the Irish hoops team, leaped in national rankings after appearances at assorted camps during the early part of the summer.
If he was ranked at all in the spring, it was as a power forward and low on the Top 100 lists for the major recruiting services, Rivals.com and Scouthoops.com. But the latest rankings posted this month by both to coincide with the start of college recruiting find Sampson in the Top 50, now as a small forward.Rivals ranks Sampson at No. 37 while Scouthoops has him at No. 22.
For the record, both student-athletes are being heavily recruited by the Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball teams.
