Manchester's Richie Ashley commits to Heidelberg for football

By Michael Beaven Published: June 17, 2013

Richie Ashley, a 2013 graduate of Manchester High School, has committed to continue his academic and football careers at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio.

Ashley, a 6-foot and 200-pound two-way linemen, was recruited by over 20 schools. He chose to accept a partial academic scholarship offered by Heidelberg because of its academics and record under coach Mike Hallett, who was formerly +an assistant coach at Coventry High School.

“I had similar offers at some other great schools, but Heidelberg, the coaches and the team just seemed like the best fit for me,” Ashley said.

Ashley played offensive guard, defensive tackle and defensive end for Manchester coach Jim France. He earned All-PAC first-team honors and was a Division IV honorable mention selection in the Northeast Ohio Inland District.

Heidelberg recruited Ashley to play defensive end and outside linebacker. He plans to study criminal justice and enroll in Army ROTC.
