Medina set to name Dan Sutherland football coach
Dan Sutherland is set to become the new head football coach at Medina High School, pending board approval on Monday.
Medina Athletic Director Jeff Harrison selected Sutherland after he served as a Bees assistant coach during the past nine seasons.
Sutherland played football at Medina and graduated from the high school in 1997. He continued to play at Malone and is currently a social studies teacher at A.I. Root Middle School in Medina.
Sutherland will be the fourth head coach Medina during the past four years. Larry Laird and Ray Hradek had one-year stints with the Bees after Greg Reed compiled a 22-28 record in five seasons and took the Bees to their first state playoff appearance in 2006.
Laird guided Medina to its first postseason win in 2010 with a 31-28 victory over top-seeded Canton McKinley in a Division I, Region 2 quarterfinal.
Hradek posted a 4-6 record last season.
