North nabs win No. 1
North football coach Mike Laktash lauded the play of seniors William Duhart and Caleb Kennedy and sophomore Malik Alqaadir in the Vikings’ 27-0 win over East in Week 4.
“We had struggled all year on defense until that game,” Laktash said. “We played with an agenda, played aggressive and ran towards the ball. We have been solid on offense all season.”
Duhart scored three touchdowns, two receiving (27 yards and 37 yards) and one on a fumble recovery (74 yards). He finished with eight receptions for 84 yards on offense, and made six tackles on defense with two sacks.
Kennedy threw both touchdown passes. Alqaadir accounted for the other touchdown on a 7-yard rush. He contributed nine tackles and two sacks also.
“I’m happy for all of my guys,” Laktash said.
Junior Alejandro Landaverde, who is new to North after living in El Salvador, converted three point after touchdown kicks.
“This kid is consistent now and he can make a 35-yard field goal,” Laktash said. “We basically taught him from scratch on how to kick a football.”
